spezado spezado

Free accounting for everyone

Your books,
in your hands.

spezado keeps the books of as many organisations as you like – your household, your freelance work, a company or a non-profit. It runs as an app, in the terminal or on a server, works offline and synchronises end-to-end encrypted. Free software, everything included.

What it is

Two sides of every booking, kept in order: spezado is accounting for private persons, sole traders and freelancers, companies and non-profits – with one tool, one account and no paid tiers.

For everyone

From the household budget to the GmbH, the association or the foundation – and the tax adviser who looks after them.

One person, many organisations

One account for every set of books you keep or look after, with a role in each of them.

Local first

The full core runs on your device and works offline. Relays only store events they cannot read.

Everything included

One edition, every feature free – no licence keys, no unlocks, no telemetry.

How it is built

Events are the truth

Bookings are never changed, only reversed. Balances and reports are derived; whatever breaks a rule goes to a review list.

Receipts first

Bank statements early, so that receipts are matched to real payments; e-invoices are read before any OCR. The original stays the receipt.

Law as modules

Germany first and complete, including payroll; then Austria, Switzerland and further European countries – as free modules.

An open protocol

Data follows librotenado, an open protocol for accounting data in Europe that anyone can implement.

Where it stands

spezado is at its beginning – there is nothing for daily use yet.

  1. Version 0a core that builds the books from librotenado events – balances per account and currency, reversals, the review list – and a command line to try it
  2. Nextstorage in SQLite, organisations and people, the terminal interface, the harmonised chart of accounts
  3. Thenbank import, receipt recognition, e-invoices, reports – and the German filings through ELSTER

The full plan is in the design.

Developers

Rust, synchronisation, e-invoicing, bank formats, European tax law. Contributions on GitHub, signed off under the DCO.

Accountants and advisers

Check the rules, the charts of accounts and the reports against practice – the law modules need people who know the law.
